I probably shouldn’t have done this, but I did. All I was really looking for was who was playing what characters in the movie Children of Men. I was looking over the cast of characters and only recognized a few of them. Then I read the plot outline of the movie – wow! Not only did they change the fact that it is men who are infertile, but they made other (I think) big changes. See below if you want to know. I still plan to see the movie whenever my turn comes up at the library.
And for those who’ve read or want to read Bringing Down the House, they’ve made a movie out of it called 21. I saw an ad for it last night during Survivor or Lost. I have yet to read the book myself though I’ve had it for a while.
Theo is not a political activist in the book nor is his ex-wife. He somehow gets roped into helping the 5 Fishes, but so far, that’s about it. I’ve got another 100 pages to go so he could become an activist, but the plot summary makes it seem he’s always been a political activist. That’s a big change, I think.
And smaller changes. Why change his wife’s name to Julian? Why change any of the names? Julian is one of the 5 Fishes. And the way his child dies (which was a girl, not a son) – I suppose I can see why they changed that because he’s not a sympathetic character when it comes to how his child died in the book as to how his child died in the movie.
It has been a while since I watched the movie, I forgot how their child died. But in the movie he is also not at activist and does get roped into it just like the book. I think it was his ex wife and father-in-law that get him roped in? Not sure. As I said it has been a while and I have not read the book.
Oh and if the movie goes along with the book, he doesn’t become an activist. You will understand when you reach the end.
