Kelly and I started out the day together with breakfast at Harrah’s (we went to that monorail stop to pick up tickets for the show later that night – the show was at Imperial Palace). After that, we went our separate ways. I had overheard someone talking about the Bellagio the night before and the conservatory that they have, that I decided that’s what I would go do while Kelly was at the Star Trek thing (too much money for too little interest on my part). So I headed off back to the Bally’s monorail stop and went through that hotel to get out to the walkway to the Bellagio. Some people we were talking to the other night at the show said the shops inside the Bellagio were so good – I didn’t find them all that exciting – I must have missed some.
Anyway, I went to the conservatory. It was interesting. They had train tracks all over the place; these large animitronic birds, and some bears. What I thought was cool was the replica of the hotel and the fountains outside the hotel giving a little “show”. It was cute. After exploring the hotel for a bit, I was going to go back to Bally’s and over to the Paris hotel, but thought I would go back to Caeser’s for a bit. I walked over there and decided I really didn’t want to walk back through there on the small chance I might see a guy in a Roman costume, so I went through Bally’s to get to the Paris hotel. I wandered around there for a bit (and played some slots) before heading back to the hotel to meet Kelly. I somehow fell asleep while waiting. Kelly came by and said she’d like to continue with Star Trek, so we went our separate ways again.
This time, I decided since I hadn’t been to Excalibur, Luxor and Mandalay Bay that I would head back that way. I ended up going to Excalibur and Luxor, but was entirely too tired to go to Mandalay Bay though I did want to see the shark reef (though I think that cost some money too). I started to head that way and decided that my feet were right, I should rest and well, it was almost time to meet Kelly for dinner and I had to make my way back through the different hotels before getting back to the monorail. On my way to these hotels, I had to go through MGM Grand and stopped by the lion habitat again – what caught my eye was that 3 lions (before, we only saw 2) were sleeping on the plexiglass walkway and 2 guys were standing inside there watching them. Eventually, they woke up the lions to get them to do something – they got them some toys to play with. It was fun to see.
So I got back to our hotel, and Kelly came shortly thereafter, and we headed over to Imperial Palace for our buffet dinner. We weren’t entirely enthused by this buffet but our tickets came with the buffet there. After dinner, we wandered around for a bit and Kelly won some money on the slots. I did not. Then it was time for the show. I enjoyed the show quite a bit even if we didn’t get to see Prince and Madonna (a guy at the show the other night was that the woman who plays Madonna is really good). One funny part of this show was when Tom Jones was on stage and he came to talk to a female in the front. He was saying hello, asked her to stand up, and asked her what her name was. Then…he asked how old she was. Her answer…thirteen. He quickly backed up and kept saying “oh dear god” the whole time. It only made me think of Brad/Blue Angel story when he hit on a 15 year old girl (that was her age, right?). Other acts we saw in the show are Jay Leno, Tina Turner, Blues Brothers and, who else, Elvis Presley. I got my picture taken with Elvis, but unfortunately, the others scattered before we had the opportunity to take pictures with them.
After the show, we headed over to Treasure Island to see the show there and to the Mirage to see the volcano eruption. Sadly, the volcano wasn’t going to erupt again until later this year. And sadly, it was extremely crowded over at Treasure Island that it made it hard to breathe. We did stay for the show, and I thought it was an o.k. show, but I’m not sure it was all that great to stand out in that heat with several others around you.
After T.I., we headed back to our hotel.
