So early Friday morning (around 1 a.m.), the nurse came by to let us know that they wanted to do the car seat test now. We could stay in the room and get a nap while the babies were away with the test (they were testing to see if they would be alright in the carseat on the way home – if they failed, they would rent us a car bed to take them home in). I had wanted to go with them so I could get out of the room and well, I wanted to be with the babies.
So we walked to the nursery in a different wing before they decided that there were too many babies in that nursery so we needed to take them back to the nursery in our wing. It was a nice little field trip. So we get back to the nursery near our room and they got everything all set up for the test. They get Ella out first and get her all strapped into the seat -at first, she didn’t like it, but after a little bit, she settled right in.
They said that they were going to test the babies one a a time, so Ben continued to lay in his bed. I went back to the room to go get his bottle as he wasn’t quite done with his meal when they came to take us to the nursery. I fed him, sat in the rocking chair as he rested in his bed when two nurses I had in antepartum came by to say hi and meet the babies. They said it was nice to see the end result as they hardly ever get to do that. We chatted with them for a little bit. Once the nurses left, I had thought of going back to the room to pump while Jon stayed in the room with the babies. However, we both decided to go back to the room to take a nap. I felt a little strange about both of us leaving the babies – I guess I felt like we were abandoning them. However, we both obviously needed a nap because the next thing I know, there is a baby crying for something to eat just after 3 a.m. The nurses are pretty good about being quiet when they enter the room.
BTW, they both passed their car seat test – yay! We got to use our own car seats to go home in.
Speaking of going home – trying to get discharged from the hospital in a timely fashion is impossible. We had a doctor appointment on Friday that we had to reschedule for yesterday because we just weren’t going to make it on time.
It was really great to see my kitties again after 5 weeks and 2 days. It felt a little strange to see them too – I had only seen them in pictures for the past 5 weeks – I don’t know it’s hard to describe the feeling. Luckily, they both recognized me and gave me some affection. After giving them some love for a little bit, I went out to help Jon bring in Ben & Ella as much as I could as I’m not supposed to lift anything heavier than just the babies (including my kitties). As I said before, the kitties were very curious but were very well behaved; however, Oliver has started to become a little bit of meanie as I’m sure he feels neglected – we try to play with him and Sophie but it is rarely enough for Oliver.
I’m just rambling now so it’s time to end this post…
i have never heard of a car seat test. what were they checking for?

They just wanted to make sure that they were able to get home safely – checking for their ability to breathe while sitting for that long period of time. I think they only do it when they are preemies or under a certain weight.

1 a.m.??
So, what time did you actually escape from the hospital?

That’s just when they did that test – I guess they don’t have the nursery open that much due to not enough staff or something like that, so the nursery wasn’t open until 11 or midnight.
We left the hospital around 1 p.m.-ish
