BBQ & More

Today was the company BBQ.  It was also the day that Denise Austin was coming to visit my work (I actually ran into her in the restroom and she asked if I was going to the talk). I should have gotten my food before the talk because I was so hungry by the end that I got too much to eat. Ugh – if I was still on WW, this would have been a bad day. I will go back to WW at some point in the future.

Tidbits

If those of you who read this are in the Seattle area, consider joining in on a petition to get twin girls into the same school this fall (notice I said the same school, not the same class). Usually, there is a rule to keep siblings together if the parents request it, but for reasons discussed in this news article, they were not. You can complete the petition whether or not you have kids.

Some find this obit interesting to read…

If you’ve been to Vegas, what tourist attractions would you definitely go see and which ones would you leave out? Kelly and I made plans to two see a couple shows, to go to the Star Trek Experience (of course – reason of going in the first place), do some gambling, then just to go see the sights the rest of the time.

For those of you not following along on Twitter, Jon and I purchased a 2005 Honda CR-V yesterday. They only had one key which makes it a bit difficult for me to use the car in the morning to get to the vanpool since we only have one set of car seats. The plan is for the car seats to go into the CR-V once we get another key for the car. Then Jon would take Ben & Ella to the daycare in the CR-V, drop the car off at Northgate. I would take the Civic in the morning to the vanpool spot. Then in the afternoon, we would switch cars. I have thought about getting two more carseats, but they cost about $300 and well, at the moment, I think this system will work just fine. Maybe when they are just in boosters, we can get 4 booster seats so each vehicle can have a set.

Anywho, over the weekend, I went to a friend’s 40th b-day party in South Seattle. Jon was working so he didn’t come along. I had a great time and did not do very well with my WW points. I could not resist the caramel chocolate torte! Although I did have a small piece. And whatever seasoning they put on the hamburgers was delicious. I should find out what it was.

Another good part of the party was that I found a person older than myself who likes the Twilight books and is looking forward to the movie. I gave the first book to my friend as she said she was interested in reading it. I also met her friends that adopted twin boys from Guatemala – one of the twins is named Benjamin. One of her friends was also one of the nude bicyclists at the Solstice parade.

Those are the highlights of this weekend. Last Thursday night, we also got together with a friend of Jon’s from Haggett, her husband and her infant son. We also saw one other former Haggett employee there too. It was nice to catch up…though I felt like I didn’t get much chance to talk as Ella was wanting to walk everywhere (with one handed assistance) – Ella is taking more steps all by herself too. Benjamin is starting to want to stand all on his own, so he may not be too far behind.

van & lecture & babies

There’s this guy in my van*pool who likes to talk…a lot. O.K. there are two guys in my van that like to talk, but I’m writing of one in particular. One of the guys doesn’t seem to be able to talk and drive well at the same time. He drove 50-55 mph in the fast lane this morning, and kept looking at the person he was talking to in the passenger seat. And I kept thinking, perhaps you should concentrate on driving so you could go at least the speed limit (60 mph) while everyone around you goes 65 or more. Oh, and I learned yesterday that someone called into Me&tro and complained about the driver on a particular day – that drive had cut him off. It turns out, it was this guy. He doesn’t care about what anyone else thinks – he comes across as a snob and a know-it-all and it just drives me crazy.

I’m not looking forward to the ride home – not for that reason – though if he drives 50-55 mph on the way home – ugh! The reason though is that we had a full van this morning and so it was a bit crowded. At least we don’t have the two 20-something guys in my van anymore that liked to take up as much room as possible and left very little room for whomever ended up sitting by them.

Somedays, I just want to stop riding the van, but we really need a 2nd car for that and since everything keeps getting more expensive, I just don’t know when that will be. And well, gas is one of those things getting more expensive and I just don’t want to spend $40-$50 in gas a week so I can drive into work. I’d rather deal with the slowpoke driver and non-stop chatterboxes.

In other news, in case you don’t read my other blog on what’s going with Ben & Ella, then you’re missing out on big news so you should go over there and read more.

I went to that psychology lecture last week on that book Blink. The first part of the lecture was interesting but well, I knew all about this stuff from reading the book. The second part was interesting, but well, the speaker wasn’t very lively in talking about her studies. I was anxious to get out of there – and very tired – but I made the mistake of sitting right behind one of the mikes, so I’m probably on camera. After the 1st question to the second speaker, I had to leave so if you watch the lecture on UWTV, you’ll see me get up and leave but not before dropping the bookmark out of my book and having to pick it up while all eyes were on the side I was on. Lovely.

Anyway, I don’t know if I mentioned this before when I talked about the book (too lazy to go look), but there is a test called the IAT that tests people’s unconscious/implicit assocations on certain things – it’s interesting to take these tests. There’s now one on presidential candidates. Let me know if you take it and what you think of it, if you want.

That’s all for now.

Stupid cyst

I mentioned this before – I have a ganglion cyst on my left wrist. It seems to be getting bigger. For a good while, it hasn’t really been hurting…until now. It really isn’t that painful, but I fear the cyst will get even bigger and will lead to more pain. I’m thinking I should go see a doctor about this again, but I don’t know. What will they do? Hit my wrist with a Bible? Nothing? Recommend surgery?

4 years

Today marks this blog’s 4 year anniversary. I can’t believe I’ve had a blog for that long. So much has changed in the last 4 years for me – most notably, the birth of Benjamin and Ella.

I’ve added even more photos today that the daycare sent me – including 3 from today (that would be the first 3 on there). There are also some on there showing Ella stealing a book from Benjamin.
