Because I couldn’t think of anything else that started with H that I felt I had something to say – how about an “about me” post?

I’m Heather.

I’ve been married for nearly 15 years to Jon.

I graduated from West Valley HS in Spokane in 1991.

I graduated from University of Washington in 1996 (BA in Political Science and Psychology). I took a year off then went to law school at Seattle University – graduating with honors (yay me).

I have 3 children – Benjamin (born 2007), Ella (born 2007) (yes, they’re twins) and Nicholas (born 2009). We used IVF to get pregnant the first time as we had been trying for several years with no success (and no, it wasn’t stress so please don’t say shit like that- IVF was rather stressful too, FYI). We ended up getting pregnant on our own with Nicholas.

I had a blog called Desperately Seeking Baby that described our time going through infertility and parenting afterwards.

I’ve been working in the legal department of a major company since 2002 (technically 2001 as I started as a temp).

I like to read – though I feel I’m a late bloomer in that respect as for a long time, I didn’t read hardly anything at all except what was assigned to me in school.

I have two cats – Oliver and Sophie – both kitties will be turning 9 this year.

Social Media. It seems that mostly everyone is on Facebook these days. That site can really suck me in! That and the book sites Netgalley and LibraryThing. If I’m not reading or at work, I’m on Facebook. What sites seem to suck you in?

You can find It’s All About Me on Facebook off to the right!

I’m also on Twitter @heathercim.

You can also find me on Goodreads – Heathercim

See you there!

Yesterday, I did something I never thought I would ever have to do. I joined Weight Watchers. When I was in high school and college, weight was just not an issue for me (sorry to say this to those that it was), but now it is. I need to lose this baby belly and other fatty places on my body. I’m still within what is considered normal for my height, but that doesn’t mean anything to me. I don’t like the way I look so I’m going to try my best to be a better eater and to exercise more. I would really like it if the weather got better so I could go walking outside – I’ll go to the gym at work if I have to, but I’d much rather walk outside where there is scenery. Anyway, we’ll see how this goes. Saturday will be the big challenge since that is the day of Ben & Ella’s birthday party. I’m saving my added weekly points for that day so I can enjoy a little bit of cupcake.

I came across this site the other day – if you have crocs and want to get rid of them, you can recycle them!

Yesterday, I came across this good article on infertility from the NY Times. There is also some audio (I haven’t listened to that yet). One thing that someone says on a blog that I read on the article is the mention the feelings you had while going through infertility don’t go away once you become a mom – how true that is! I still get jealous of pregnant women – especially ones that get pregnant without paying money to do so.

Stuff

A video for autism awareness with a song by Five for Fighting.

Unlike others, I’m excited Lost is back. I’m glad the writer’s strike is over. I’ve read that this possibly means we will have more than just the 8 episodes they’ve already filmed. I hope so.

Thursday night tv has turned out to be a good night for tv – really the only night I look forward to these days since Heroes is gone and it sounds like it will be gone until the fall. There’s Survivor Fans v. Favorites on at 8 and Lost on at 9. Yay!

I’m a bit late in writing this (I actually started this post a while ago)…I’m a bit shocked the Giants won the Super Bowl…o.k. a lot shocked.

I was just reading about upcoming movies and I noticed 3 books that I loved are being made into movies (I knew about the first two already but not the third). I’m looking forward to the movies.

The Time Traveler’s Wifemy review

The Lovely Bones (directed by Peter Jackson – I point that out since it just seems weird to me that he’s the director of a drama like this one)

My Sister’s Keeper

Oh, and I don’t know if this has been mentioned before but I think some who may read this blog might be interested in this book (I feel like I have mentioned it before, but my memory is a bit fuzzy). Anyway, there’s this book all about an author’s year trying to eat only home-grown food or locally grown food. If anyone reads it, let me know how it is. I don’t know if I’ll get around to reading it.

New Cell Phone

Ally will be happy to know that I was looking at Verizon’s website in order to pick out a new cell phone (my current one sucks so badly – I’ve had it for at least 3, maybe 4, years). I narrowed it down to three choices. One of which I think would be cool to have, but seriously do I need to spend $80 on a new cell phone just because it looks spiffy and has a touch screen? Probably not, especially since I have a lot of other bigger expenses and I just need a phone to work properly. O.K. the Voyager looks spiffy too, but it’s $299! I know I really don’t need that one.

The other two I was looking at are $9.99 for the RAZR or $19.99 for the Motokrzr. I think I’m leaning toward the latter in “fire”. I was all set to go ahead and order it, but their website isn’t working properly and won’t let me access my account to order it through there. UGH! I’ll try again later, but I will order a new phone.

Question

I was talking to a coworker about the fact that I will be docked vacation and sick time due to my maternity leave. I normally get 3 weeks vacation and 6 sick days per year, but when my anniversary rolls around in February, I will only get 63 hours of vacation, 25 hours of sick time and 3 floaters (the floater time didn’t change). This just sucks. On the one hand, it is wonderful that I got 3 months paid maternity leave, but on the other, it just sucks that it feels like they penalize you for taking that time off to be with your new family (or in the case of some coworkers, to take care of your broken leg or go through cancer treatments).

My coworker thinks that other businesses don’t have such a policy about docking time like this, but I would think it probably is the case so I thought I would ask others. What is it like where you work?

Can’t Sleep

I’m having trouble sleeping, so what better way to spend my time than to blog. I just don’t feel like watching tv. Yesterday morning, I woke up with a sore throat and just feeling yucky. Of course, I would get sick the day of my work party – the party I’ve been looking forward to so I could bowl! So I missed out on bowling for the 3rd year in a row. I hope they go bowling again next year. I think I may have slept a bit too much, so now I don’t feel at all tired. I think I may finally be hungry – I hardly ate anything yesterday as it would just end up outside of my stomach. I think I may go eat something, but I’m not sure what – nothing sounds good.

Yesterday, Benjamin & Ella turned 6 months!!! Wow, they’re already half a year old. We were going to start them on solids yesterday as the “magic day” to start solids – because you know when they were 1 day shy of 6 months, their stomachs weren’t quite ready for it, but once they turn 6 months, their stomachs magically matured. We’ll try tonight.

I wanted to share a conversation that happened in my vanpool that I just found amusing (just a bit of background – we saw a license plate that had a phrase on it and this is the conversation that followed:

Person #1: What is the origin of ****?
Person #2: I don’t know. You should google it.
Person #1: I think I will.
Person #2: What website do you think you’ll go to?
Person #1: Umm, I think I’ll go to google.

I don’t think person #2 quite understood what googling something meant.

Well, I think I’m going to try to find something to eat, then maybe try to get some more sleep.

Random Tidbits

I just saw that the 2nd Chronicles of Narnia movie – Prince Caspian – is coming out next year. I haven’t read that book yet, though I want to.

I went over to Cos&tco today and saw that they were selling these bags that I mentioned before, so I got some that we can use from now on when we go shopping -including my shopping trip today. I managed to get 2 more Christmas gifts today – so that’s 4 down – many, many to go. I also got some Christmas cards today – these ones are super cute. 😀 I’m excited to send them out.

Tomorrow afternoon is my department holiday party – we’re going bowling and playing pool at this place. I’m looking forward to it since I missed the first bowling party 2 years ago and last year, I didn’t bowl since I was pregnant and too nervous to bowl (even though it might have been o.k. but since this pregnancy was hard to obtain, I wasn’t going to do anything to risk losing the babies – and what cuties they are).

Work=bad, PB Twix = good

You know what – I think I’m going to change NYC’s slogan to “I HATE NY”. UGH! So incredibly frustrating. The person I spoke to was nice, but the process to get some things done is so annoying. You know what – working in general is annoying. I don’t want to do it anymore.

What’s good is a Peanut Butter Twix. Yum!
